Becky - Assistant Buyer
After a degree in tourism and business management – funded by part-time retail work – Becky got a job in the buying department of a construction company. Then the recession hit. People advised her not to move back into retail as it was shrinking so much, but her interview with BrightHouse was a breath of fresh air and revealed impressive growth plans. She’s been here six years now…
“I started in Buying admin, looking after the furniture side with Dene. I worked with UK suppliers, did factory visits, supplier visits… and really enjoyed it. I wanted to progress, so I asked to do a diploma for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply – did it in my spare time, and BrightHouse funded it.
I got the diploma last year. In July last year I also got my Assistant Buyer promotion, so now I’m looking after the bedroom furniture category. With our particular model, BrightHouse is so different to a normal retailer. There’s lots more to think about. It’s not just a buying job, it's the management of the category. People here think outside the box - not one picture, but the bigger picture.”
