BrightHouse is the trading name of Caversham Finance Limited and Caversham Trading Limited so when you see the terms “we”, “us” or “our” in this notice, that is who we are referring to.

Where we get your information from:

 In order for you to apply for a role at BrightHouse, we will ask you to provide certain information about yourself, by completing and submitting an online form.  

 We may collect personal data about you from other sources, such as credit reference agencies, previous employers, education providers, public sources of information and the Disclosure and Barring Service.  This is part of our assessment, the accuracy and completeness of the information you have provided in support of your application may be checked.   This may include pre-employment checks as to your credit history, academic qualifications and employer references, as well as carrying out criminal records, address validation and health checks.

 We will also check your details against the Cifas (fraud prevention agency) databases established for the purpose of allowing organisations to record and share data on their fraud cases, other unlawful or dishonest conduct, malpractice, and other seriously improper conduct (“Relevant Conduct”) carried out by their employees and potential employees. “Employee” means an individual engaged as an employee, director, trainee, homeworker, consultant, contractor, temporary or agency worker, or self-employed individual, whether full or part time or for a fixed-term.

What we use your information for:

 We will use your information to assess your suitability for the role you have applied for and potentially for other roles within our business which it may feel you are suitable for. You understand that the assessment we undertake is at your request as necessary steps prior to considering entering into a contract of employment with you.

 If you are successful in your application we will ask for additional information from you, which may include sensitive personal information about you (such as health information to help us make any reasonable adjustments in your workplace), however, we will provide you with further information about this at the time. The information you have provided as part of the assessment process will then be retained as part of your employment file.  If you are unsuccessful we will only retain your information for 6 months.

 
The personal data you have provided, we have collected from you, or we have received from third parties will be used to prevent fraud and other Relevant Conduct and to verify your identify.

 We and Cifas may also enable law enforcement agencies to access and use your personal data to detect, investigate and prevent crime.

 We process personal data on the basis that we have a legitimate interest in preventing fraud and other Relevant Conduct, and to verify your identify, in order to protect our business and customers and to comply with laws that apply to us. This processing of your personal data is also a requirement of your engagement with us.

 Cifas will hold your personal data for up to six years if you are considered to pose a fraud or Relevant Conduct risk.

Should our investigations identify fraud or any other Relevant Conduct by you when applying for or during the course of your employment with us, your new employment may be refused or your existing employment may be terminated or other disciplinary action taken (subject to your rights under your existing contract and under employment law generally).

 A record of any fraudulent or other Relevant Conduct by you will be retained by Cifas and may result in others refusing to employ you. If you have any questions about this, please contact us using the details below.

 We may use agents or third parties to help us manage the personal information you provide to us, some of which may store your personal information in locations outside the European Union. Cifas may also decide to transfer your personal data outside of the European Union. Some of these countries do not provide the same rights and protection for personal information.  Where this happens we and Cifas will take steps to protect your personal information by using EU approved contract clauses or companies that are covered by the Privacy Shield.

 You have the right to ask for a copy of the information held on you can do so by contacting HR as below.

 You are entitled to have a copy (paper or electronically) of the information we hold on you and to have any inaccurate information corrected. You may request that restrictions are placed on the use of your information or even for your information to be erased.
